Novavax’s COVID shot to be distributed in the U.S.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is now recommending Novavax’s COVID-19 vaccine. The primary series vaccine has been approved for adults 18 and older. Having already been approved by the Food and Drug Administration, doses of the vaccine will be distributed by the U.S. government in the coming days.
Novavax is a protein-based vaccine that utilizes the same 30-year old technology as is used with the Hepatitis B, influenza and whooping cough vaccines. Health officials hope that people afraid to take newer vaccines will be willing to take Novavax since it is one that has tested history. Novavax plans to target the 37 million Americans who have not been vaccinated.
COVID-19 cases are on the rise again in parts of the U.S. with BA.4 and BA.5 omicron sub variants accounting for more than 90% of current cases. Vaccination is key to avoiding serious illness. “At SpecialtyRx we have been closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic, providing vaccines and therapeutics to our clients to assist them in containing the disease,” stated Saba Ansari, Pharm.D – Operations Specialist.
