A recent study out of the University of Michigan and the Department of Veterans Affairs at Ann Arbor Healthcare System revealed that an employee-centric environment that offers practical, meaningful support is key to retaining employees and mitigating turnover.

Amongst the direct care RNs, LPNs and CNAs and residents’ family members who were interviewed, many stated it was frequently more important than compensation.

For more than 20 years, resident-centered care has been the cornerstone of nursing home care, but staffing issues threaten that ideal. While the study showed that better wages are important, most participants did not consider it a primary factor in reducing attrition.

Feeling appreciated and supported were the keys to minimizing turnover and disruptions in care. Positive work environments were higher on the list than raises when discussing reasons for high turnover.

“It’s important to let your employees know how much you value them and give them the proper tools and support necessary to do their jobs effectively. When it comes to fulfilling your pharmaceutical needs, our staff supports yours to ensure smooth, hassle-free service,” stated Joe Kubulak, Chief Operating Officer at SpecialtyRx.
